Six Days and a Matching Grant !

It is finally starting to sink in. We will have our sweet little boy in JUST SIX DAYS ! We found out this morning that we are being blessed with a matching grant from Anonymous Angels in the amount of $350 ! Once our FSP reads $7,900 they will match it and bring our FSP to $8,250 ! Its currently sitting at $7,743 :)

We are starting to count down the days to when our journey to Owen "officially begins". In our case, we will drive to NJ on Friday. We had contemplated driving up on Thursday , but decided that Friday was better so Ethan doesn't have to miss more school than absolutely necessary. We will arrive really late Friday night, on Saturday evening we will go to the airport which takes off at 12:45 am. Then we will spend 14.5 hours flying and land in Little Mans country at 12:30am Monday (their time).

So in that case : THREE days til we drive to NJ, FIVE days til we fly and SIX days until we are in little mans country! We have to wait until court is over to visit, and share photos but once we *can* I totally *will*!:)

I am so happy my heart could burst ! It has been a long almost 4 months since we have seen him and held him. I am going to try to remember to video our reunion, but I forgot last time so no promises :)

Our bags are packed (and loaded in the van !! whoop whoop!), We have a few little things to do- oil change, loading the tablet, cleaning the house and making it welcoming etc etc. But we are READY !

NINE DAYS !

I can not believe we are so close to finally being with our little guys again. Since my last post was so short- sorry ! I couldnt write I was too excited :) -  I will take a minute to back up and let everyone know how everything went down.

We had heard that the embassy was down and that It would take about a week to hear anything. By Monday  I was pumped- and ready for dates. But we got an email from our agency that it would likely take another "couple days" to hear anything-- So technically it would have been Wednesday or Thursday. I joked with some friends on Thursday morning that "technically" it had been a "couple days", but I wasn't really expecting dates. Especially by the time Noon rolled around and we hadnt heard anything. I went to pick up Ethan from school around 230, and around 330 I was checking my email when it popped up from the agency. She just said "hey can you be here the 29th" uhm what? ABSOLUTELY !  haha.

Because my phone broke on Monday I had no way to contact my husband , mom or mother in law. I decided to EMAIL them the good news-- but my mom was the only one that got it. So I wrote the blog post and shared it. One of my friends works with my husband and ran up to his floor to let him know- Imagine that for a minute LOL. And because they work for a cell phone provider call center his coworkers were giving him a hard time that I didnt have a phone :)

We started working on trying to book flights. We ended up booking for 2/28-3/22. This meant that we would have to pay for 2 more days in the apartment ($400). We were just minutes away from booking those flights (Because we were getting them at an AWESOME deal- way less than we expected!) When we got an email from the agency saying our in country team thinks we will be done with everything in about 20 days. We looked into those flights and they were $521 more. But our flights are non-refundable, so even if we are done with everything early we cant leave the country any earlier without losing our tickets and having to buy new ones to come home.  We know that we will miss our littles something awful while we are away but considering our extremely tight financial situation currently we weighed the options and chose the cheaper airfare.

I know logically, this makes sense. Our budget says this is what we can do. But my heart is already hurting. We will drive up to NJ on Feb 26 so that the littles can stay with my mother in law while we are gone. She will drive us to the airport on Sat (Feb27) and we will leave really early Sunday (1245am). We will be in country until March 22. I have never left my kids this long. I know they will be fine and have so much fun, but I really wish we could just stuff 'em in our suitcases and bring them with us.

In the grand scheme of things this will be nothing- we will look back and it wont even matter. But for now, it totally sucks.

BUT ! We are so so so excited to finally be with Owen again. We have waited so long to see him, and he has waited even longer for a family. Once we have our court decree, we will legally be his parents and I can finally blow up Facebook with all of his cuteness !! So if you are one of those people that get annoyed by people who post their kids- delete me now ;)

I am excited to fianlly get back to his country- with all of its beauty <3<3

We Leave in EIGHT days, arrive in his country in NINE.

We are still fundraising- and just $1,975 from FULLY FUNDED. Will you help us get there ? <3 <3

Still waiting. Still raising. And Still collecting .

We had expected to get dates around the beginning of this week. However, on Monday our agency informed us that the embassy was getting an upgrade in security which delayed everything by a few days. Our in country team says we should have dates by Friday or Monday at the latest. We are still expecting about a 10 day notice, maybe a little longer. Please continue praying for us because this part has been harder than any other so far in this process. There is absolutely nothing we can do to speed things up, short of calling them every single day. And that wouldn't speed anything up, it would just annoy them :)

We have Little Mans suitcase packed and ready to go ! We are so ready to get travel dates and bring him home. And  I am praying with everything in me that we can leave soon. He has waited so very long, and I am sure that by now he thinks we have forgotten to go back for him. While part of me feels like the months have flown by since we came home, it also feels like they have drug on and on. I am sure in his little mind that it feels like forever has passed. The thought that keeps creeping up is that he will feel abandoned, again. Before we found him and before we started the process of bringing him home, he was so sure that he was too old for a family. That he wouldn't get a mommy and daddy. He asked everyone that came if they knew his mom and dad and if they knew when they were coming. Today it has been exactly 15 months since we made the call to our agency asking for his file. It has been a long and trying 15 months.

These past 15 months have stretched and strengthened me in ways I didn't know I needed. It is really hard to put into words the ways this process has affected us. But it has made us closer as a family. I have seen my sweet little Ethan show compassion in ways that most 4 year old wouldn't. His little heart doesn't understand why brother isn't home, or why its taking so long. He truly believes we should just get on that big plane again and go get him. He prays over his brother every single night, and asks if Owen is ready to come home yet. He is so sweet.

We still have our Visa board going. And we still have our puzzle piece fundraiser. Would you consider purchasing a number or piece to help us bring Owen home ? We would greatly appreciate it!

We are also collecting items for Owens orphanage. We would like to donate tooth brushes, tooth pastes, hand sanitizer, body wash/ shampoo. diapers and wipes. And possibly children's medicines (Tylenol etc.), but this may be an after thought depending on how well the other things go. We have contacted almost every dentist office locally and asked for donations of tooth pastes and tooth brushes. Two have given us a few samples, so I think we are good on those items. We are still collecting the other items. If you would like to help us with any of those items please message me on Facebook- or email me at ashtonymcbride@yahoo.com We would love the help of our friends to give his orphanage things they can use. His orphanage is run entirely on donations and they really depend on the graciousness of others to keep it running. If you can help, please do.

We are coming sweet boy, slowly but surely. Like little turtles. Slow and steady....Even when we just want to sprint as fast as possible it isnt always what we can do.

So, until we get dates we are Still Waiting, Still Raising, and Still Collecting Donations <3

Happy Birthday to my Husband :)

This morning we were expecting a check from our matching grant to hit out FSP account. This was in the amount of $250, so our FSP should have read somewhere around $6030ish. Well I just checked and get this ! It is at $6789!!!!! Talk about Miracles !! And while it may be coincidence or not, today is also my husbands birthday :) It would have been super awesome to spend his birthday with our newest little guy, but that isnt how it worked out. We are still waiting for our travel dates....and truthfully we are growing anxious. I want to travel now. Like now now . Patience has never been a strong suit of mine, and while this adoption process has helped me in that area, I am who I am ;)

To help us celebrate the amazing life that is my husband (I'm biased.) Would you consider making a birthday donation to our FSP? :D

These are the fees we have left :
$850 Round trip airfare for Tony
$850 Round trip airfare for Ashton
$400 One way trip HOME for Owen !! (covered!)
$100 Owens Medical Visit required by the embassy  (covered)
$1050 = $50/day for food
$500 for Orphanage donations of wipes and diapers to be bought in country (because they would be too heavy for suitcases)

Total $3750, But this is an estimate.

All we need to be fully funded is $2,886

Will you buy a number on our board ? We are giving away two visa gift cards in the amount of $75 & $125 when the numbers are covered.

Thank you friends !!

Collecting Donations for Little Mans orphanage ! And a fundraiser to help !!!

I  was able to determine today that our DS260 (aka Owens Visa!) was processed last Friday. At this point we are waiting for his country to complete our article 5 and issue travel dates. This should all be done soon, and we should travel in just a few weeks !!!

We still need to raise the remaining fees of about $3500 to be "fully funded" and this is how they break down so that you know where your donation is going !!

$850 Round trip airfare for Tony
$850 Round trip airfare for Ashton
$400 One way trip HOME for Owen !!
$100 Owens Medical Visit required by the embassy
$1050 = $50/day for food
$500 for Orphanage donations of wipes and diapers to be bought in country (because they would be too heavy for suitcases)

Total $3750, But this is an estimate. Flights will change. And we will only buy as many as we have the money for. And we are going to try to fit some food into our suitcases to save on that expense as well.

Some of the other items we would like to donate are tooth brushes/ paste, hand sanitizer, children's body wash/shampoo, and children's medicines (Tylenol etc)

If you are local to Wilmington,NC I will be more than happy to meet you or If you are not local and wish to send stuff through the mail please contact me for an address to send it to.You can email me directly at ashtonymcbride@yahoo.com

Also ! A friend of mine offered to do a Norwex fundraiser for us. She will be donating her commissions to help with the diapers and wipes donations in country. Please check out the link --
http://www.norwex.biz/PublicStore/event/1087473/default.aspx

Thank you so much for helping provide the necessities for these children that so often we take for granted !

Just waiting for travel dates ! :)

Wow! Where do I even begin? January 1 we needed $11,500 to be fully funded. We have received donations and grants all month long. We have worked over time and donated plasma a few times. Last night I was told someone wanted to bless us with the remaining agency fees ($250). She is sending the check to Reece's rainbow tomorrow and by the end of this week our agency should receive it. Our agency fees are completely paid !

We are still waiting to hear from little man's country as to when our court date is. We expect to hear from them by next week, and court is usually scheduled about 10 days later -sometimes a little longer out. We still need to raise the remaining $3500 to be fully funded. This amount with cover our airfare, food, and orphanage donation while we are there. We have a goal to donate 25 bottles of hand sanitizer, 30 wipes and to purchase some diapers while in country. If you would like to help with this donation please donate to our FSP or our PayPal donation link.

We have contemplated our orphanage donation for awhile, I mean how do we say thank you for raising our child for 5 years u til we could get there ? Nothing seems adequate enough but I believe these items will be beneficial for them. His orphanage is run on nothing but donations so they appreciate all the help they get !

This month is going to be so exciting, and stressful. We are still getting everything ready for our trip. And I decided that I wanted to make 45 freezer meals to have for when we return. Having them ready and justing having to throw dinner in the crock pot each morning will be such a blessing. It will be one less thing to worry about and give us more time to bond with Owen. So don't mind me, I'll just be slaving away in my kitchen until we leave :)

$3500. Just a few weeks. And at the end, we get to welcome the newest little Mcbride and we are so excited! Ethan is so excited to have his brother home. He keeps reminding me that "Owen should be home" "why is it taking so long" "I just want my Owen to be home already". He has the sweetest little heart and I know that he will be the best big brother to Owen. <3

Thank you, friends!!!! We have come so far and we couldn't have done it without your help!!! Officially racing to the finish line!!!

We have our NVC numbers !!!

By now anyone that knows me knows that patience is not a virtue I possess. So when we got our provisional approval and it was sent to the National Benefits Center for processing we were told that we needed to wait 10-12 days before calling to get our numbers. I waited 7. I called and they let me know that they had received it and gave me some numbers, I asked if those were the numbers I needed to send to our agency and was told no. They said to call back he next day or Friday and I should have the right numbers. So I called the next day as soon as they opened. I was given the same information and asked the question, but this time I was told those were the numbers our agency needed. Yay !!!!!!!

I quickly sent an email to our agency, and waited for 9am to call them. I gave them our numbers and they will be filing our DS260 form (aka Little Mans VISA!!). The National Benefits Center has sent our file over to the embassy for processing. They will issue our article 5, and that is when we will get travel dates !!! Travel dates are generally about 10 days out from the time they issue it. This process should take about 4 weeks, but based on other families timelines usually only takes about 2.

All of this to say that we are just a few weeks away from bringing little Owen home !!! We are planning for 24 days (2 weeks for everything to process + 10 days waiting for court), but realize it "could" take about 4 weeks total before we travel. So far we have moved relatively fast through the end of this process so I am hoping we will continue moving at this speed for the remainder.

Big news !! Our FSP has gotten some love, and we are just $473.01 away from paying our agency !!! Our agency bill was due over a week ago, and while they have been patient and understanding I am sure they would like to be paid for their services ;) Will you help us get there?

I will post an updated board shortly-- we are so close to giving away a $75 Visa Gift Card !!!

We still have so many puzzle pieces ! For a donation of any amount I will put your name on the back of a piece which will hang in Owens room.

And we have TWO shirts left ! A grey and red both in size Medium ! $25 each to our fsp gets them shipped straight to your door !!!

Thank you, friends. Without your help we couldn't have made it this far ! We are so close to having him home forever !!! Our immediate need is $473.01. After that is travel expenses which we are estimating at about $3500. Which means to be FULLY FUNDED we only need $3,973.01 !!!

Can you believe that ? When we committed to making Owen our son in November 2014, we needed $30,000+ to bring him home !!! We are down to just $3,971 to bring him home !!! Gods faithfulness and timing are so perfect !!!!!

We have our provisional approval!!!

Yesterday we got our provisional approval from USCIS ! Now our article 16 is being sent to the national benefits center for approval which is when we will get our NVC numbers.  These numbers will be sent to little man's country to issue his visa , then TRAVEL DATES! This process should take about 4 weeks. But based on other families experience will probably only be about 2 weeks! This means we will be picking up Owen in about 4-6 weeks!!!! We are so so so excited ! We need to pay our final agency fee, after our matching grant is applied to our FSP we still need $825. Technically our fee is due tomorrow, but we will have to pay it a little late because we don't have it yet. After it is paid we need to come up with about $3500 for airfare/travel expenses!

This is so  amazing. We started this process with needing over $30,000 and now its down to just a few thousand ! This is so doable, God has moved so many mountains for us. I feel like so many things have gone wrong, but overall everything is falling into place. His perfect timing , even when I feel like we are moving at snails pace.

Our living room is almost finished ! We will be so happy to have our house back in order :) last week while I was driving a rock flew up and cracked our windsheild. Fantastic. Then this morning as I was getting ready to take Ethan to school I couldn't get the door to open on my van. It was completely frozen shut. My husband came out to help, and broke the handle off my van. He's either the hulk or wreck it Ralph ;) I am just going with the theory that if it CAN break or go wrong, it WILL in the next 4 weeks! Ha-ha.

Seriously friends, please pray nothing else happens. All of these "little" bumps are costing us money we can't really afford to spend at such a crucial time in the process.

And for added measure, we are all battling some icky cold or something. It's so fun having a child in school ;)

Just two more days of my fast! I will be back on Facebook Saturday!!! I can not wait. I realized that I don't "need" Facebook to keep me busy. But it was also a realization that almost all of our support system is through social media. I miss being able to talk to other families, and I miss being able to check in on our friends traveling. I also realized it was our biggest avenue if sharing fundraisers and stuff. I'll be excited to be back on:)

So in short, we expect to get travel dates in about 2 weeks and to travel about 2-3 weeks after that!!!!! The finish line is in sight!!! My heart is so happy that we are finally so close to having our sweet boy again, this time forever.

We have a $500 matching grant !!!

When it rains , it pours. Or something like that! Ha-ha! But its raining BLESSINGS! Is there a positive version of that expression? I need to Google it because we have so many blessings !!!

I was contacted a little while ago by our family warrior. She wanted to let me know that someone who wishes to remain anonymous wants to give us a $500 matching grant !!! So many blessings !!!

This means that once our FSP reads $4806.52 our anonymous donor will add her $500 and that will put us at $5306.52!!!

This is absolutely amazing. And I am so so so thankful! Please donate if you can, and share our FSP link with your friends and family .

Our anonymous donor is giving us FIVE days to meet this grant, which I think is totally doable with the amazing support from our friends and family.

Two posts in one day, both great and amazing news !!!! <3

Thank you friends!!!

Praise God!!! We got a grant !!!:)

Oh my gosh! I am so excited to let everyone know that something absolutely amazing happened yesterday! We received a letter from Show Hope, and they gave us $5,000 towards our adoption! I was so excited that it took a few minutes to sink in and then I cried tears of joy !!!!! This couldn't have come at a better time for us. When we started the new year we needed $12,500 to be fully funded, but then we realized that we had water damage in our living room. This meant that we needed to rip up the flooring to fix the issue and lay new flooring down. This would cost us a significant amount of money, and we still needed so much for the adoption. On top of that we had our oldest was scheduled for a surgery (just minor, no worries!) But our insurance wouldnt cover it completely, and we need to come up with the out of pocket expenses for it. These things couldn't have happened at a worst time, we are just a few weeks away from traveling to bring Owen home. I felt like everything was going wrong.

**Ethan did very well during his surgery, thank God. He recovered quickly and is back to being good as ever :)

Then I started my fast from Facebook which I felt like was kind of a mistake at this time just because facebook has been our biggest support and our easiest method of sharing fundraisers. But within a little over a week God has provided so much!!! We now just need $5000 to be fully funded. How amazing is that?!?

Words seriously can't describe the level of awesomeness that it. Just $5000, and about 7 weeks until we go back to little man's country to bring him home.

Thank you so so much to everyone who has been sharing our family's story, and our need. We really appreciate every one who has joined us in our journey. Please continue sharing and praying for us. We need our FSP to read $9585 to be fully funded.

We have some shirts left over from our last campaign, and I will update the sizes and colors of each as soon as I can.

We also have some numbers left on the visa board. I think if we can get the numbers claimed that we will be fully funded or extremely close !!!

I will update as soon as our living room is finished. I am currently writing this post on my phone, which is easier said than done :)
the current situation going on in our living room.

Fasting, Trusting, and most of all Praying

Each year we begin the new year with a fast. We give up different things based on what we feel is most sacrificial. This year I gave up Facebook. I am also giving up Soda, Tea, Juice and animal based foods. The fast will be from Jan 3 - Jan 23. I realized that I was spending a lot of time on social media and less and less time with daily devotion. It was not an easy decision. Especially at this point in the adoption. I was worried that not being able to be on Facebook and sharing our story that people would forget about us, about Owen. But God never forgets. And he is always faithful. I was talking with a friend today and she shared something with me that really spoke to my heart. She shared: what God originates, He orchestrates. The how is never a problem for Him. How true this has been for us ! He has brought us on this incredible journey and provided every step of the way.

Imagine my surprise when I checked our FSP and it had grown over $1000 since Sunday !!! Talk about Miracles. Seriously, I am blown away. Thank you so much to every single person who has donated to our account.

With the new FSP amount we now have our Post Placement fees covered ! Miracles.

Today is also a big step in the process for us. Our article 16 was sent off to USCIS. Once they process it we will get our travel dates to bring Owen home !! It generally takes about 3-4 weeks for them to process everything and most families travel 3-4 weeks later.

This means we could potentially be traveling in as little as 6-8 weeks !  We are so excited to finally have our little guy in our arms again, and our family whole. It has been so difficult to "do life" when one of your children is missing. He is always in our thoughts, everything we do we are acutely aware that there should be another hand to hold, another face to wash, another little one to tuck in at night. But, soon he will be here, and we will be together forever.

With the new donations this is what we have left :
$4,600 Hosting fee- covers apartment, transportation and translator
$2,000 International Fee
$3,500-$4,500 Airfare/In country expenses (we hope this is a high estimate)

This is what is covered for first trip :
$325 Owens Visa
$1,400 Post Placement Fees

It seems like a lot of money to raise in just a few short weeks and it is. But God has his hand in this and he will see us through. Even when I feel like it is impossible I am reminded about this verse:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3:5-6
We are putting our entire process in Gods hands. He will pave the way and see it through.

As always, please keep our family in your prayers. That the funds will come at just the right time, because His timing is always perfect. And Please keep Owen in your prayers that his heart will be prepared to leave the only home he has ever known and join a family . Also that his brother and sister will be prepared for the new addition of a sibling.

Thank you so much, friends.

When Great News happens !

I was expecting last week to be excruciating. The weeks leading up to Christmas were painful. I thought last year was hard, we had just submitted our application to the agency right before Thanksgiving and had been approved to adopt him a little before Christmas. Last year we felt like we were missing somebody, Last year we knew there was an extra plate we weren't making, another stocking we weren't filling, another child missing out on the family traditions we do each year. Last year I was so so sure that our family would be different. Our family would be one of the fast ones, the ones our agency said not to base your timeline on. I just knew he would be home for Christmas. But I was wrong. This year I knew he wouldn't be here for Christmas.  This year was different though, we knew him. We spent a week with him. We have held him and snuggled him. He was missing. And I literally felt like my heart was in two places, breaking from the pain of not having all of my little ones with us. I thought for sure Christmas Day would be unbearable.

But Then !

On Dec. 22 we received a video update of Owen. It was the sweetest gift we could have asked for, really. Or so we thought. Because on Dec.23 we received our article 16! This is a HUGE step in the process. It basically means both governments agree that we can adopt OWEN. We got the OK from our government that we could adopt "a child", we got the okay from his government that we could adopt "a child" but now we have the okay to adopt not just "a child" but OUR CHILD. I am so so so happy ! We quickly filled out our portion and sent it to our agency. But in true adoption fashion, every single time we have needed something to hurry along or get seen there's a delay or holiday. Hello, Christmas. LOL.

Other families have traveled anywhere from 7 weeks to 5 months after receiving their article 16. We know based on our in country teams estimate that we should travel around March. So we have about 10-12 weeks to come up with the remaining adoption fees. We have a few pending donations that haven't been added to our FSP yet so there is a small update but I don't know the specifics yet.

Until those are accounted for I am just going to say this is where we are:
International fee $2000
Hosting fee (apartment, transportation,translator) $4600
Post placement fees $1400
Airfare/ In Country Expenses $4500 (We really hope this is a HIGH estimate!)

We are so so so close to bringing home the newest little McBride! I can hardly wait. I know we still have a ton of money to raise but right now I am soaking in the excitement of the finish line ! That sweet smart little guy we met in November gets to finally come home in 2016! The little 3 year old that we saw on Reece's Rainbow in 2014, finally gets to have his very own family in 2016 ! The sweet little guy who has spent 4 years waiting for a mom and dad and believing with everything in him that they weren't coming , finally gets his very own right before his 5th birthday ! And what a celebration that will be !

So maybe we did miss this Christmas with him, but it will certainly be the last one without him!

We ask that you please keep us in your thoughts and prayers in the next several weeks. We have one final adoption grant application that we are waiting to hear from. We need this grant. I know every person that applies needs it too. But I really really hope we are chosen for it. We have tried so many fundraisers, we have worked over time, side jobs and random things (remember my plasma post? ) We have applied to so many grant organizations. We just need help getting to the finish line. He isn't a cute little squishy baby, He isn't aging out, he isn't in a horrible orphanage being abused, neglected or starved, but he is still worthy of having a family. He deserves it just as much as every other child waiting for a family. So, please help us get there. Pray for our family. Share our posts. Ask your friends if they want to buy a shirt or a puzzle piece or a number on our VISA gift card board.

Every single thing that you do is a blessing to us. Every single prayer is heard and God is faithful. He will get us through this journey and he will provide the funds we need to bring this sweet amazing little boy home.

I saw this verse the other day and it really resonated with me. The power in prayer is a beautiful thing. I know that if we could have everyone flood heavens gate with prayers for our family God will provide the funds to bring our sweet guy home.

Matthew 7:7-8 (NIV)

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

 Thank you so very much.

Here is a photo of Ethan & Ashlyn on Christmas ! And here is our "Christmas photo" we took at my husbands job a few weeks ago ! They had a "family day" with crafts and Elsa and games. The kids really enjoyed seeing where daddy spends all his time ;)

Even if you can not order one , would you mind sharing this post so others can see it ?

We have just until March 2016 to raise about $12,500 and this shirt campaign could knock out a portion of that for us :)

Remaining Adoption Fees:

Final international fee: ($2,000) Hosting-will include apartment, translator and transportation: ($4600) Post placement fees: ($1400) Visa for Owen to come home: ($325) Estimated expenses for airfare and in country expenses:  about $4500
We also have our Visa Gift Card Give away going on. Could we get the first 25 numbers gone by the end of the year? I think we could, with your help ! Please share with your friends :) Numbers 1-50 will be drawn for a $75 gift card and 51-100 will be drawn for a $125 Gift card. So no matter who wins, you automatically get back more than you invested. If you would like to help other children and their grants, you could join with someone else and pick a number. If that number is drawn the Gift Card amount would be donated to the family or child of your choice !

Also, we still have so many puzzle Pieces ! We have 983 pieces left. For a minimum of $5 donation to our FSP your name or name of your choosing will be put on the back of this puzzle which will hang in Owens room.   Owen is in an orphanage nestled in the foot hills of Mount Ararat. This is the place where the Bible says the Ark rested on after the flood, which is why we want the puzzle to be Noahs Ark!

We have 983 pieces left to the puzzle!  If we can get the remaining puzzle pieces sponsored for at least $5 each we will be $4915 closer to our goal!

We need $12500 to be fully funded. This puzzle will give us $4915 and the visa gift card board will give us $4995 for a total of $9,910. We would be so close to fully funded with just these two fundraisers!

Pushing to the finish line !

So remember last week when I shared that we are around $12,500 from being fully funded ? Well this week I would like to share our fundraisers and where we are in the process.

Once we got home Little Mans government began working on our paper work, you know just about a million documents of our life :) Eventually our file will make its way to the hands of the Prime Minister who will review it and give us his approval. We wont exactly know when that happens, but when it does it means we are one HUGE step closer ! Then we will receive our Article 16 which is for our government, basically saying that they both agree we can adopt Owen.

Then a few short weeks later we will be invited to bring Owen home ! Our best guess right now because of government shut downs for the holidays is that we will be invited to bring him home around March 2016.

We have this puzzle fundraiser : For a donation of at least $5 I will put your name, or the name of your choice on the back of a puzzle piece. Once you have sponsored a piece and the whole thing is put together it will hang in our sweet boys room with your name on the back so that he can see everyone that helped bring him home !

We also have our Visa Give away board. The way this one works is you pick a number without a start on it between 1-100. The number you choose correlates into the donation made to our FSP. Every number 1-100 gets us this much closer to Owen. The drawing for the gift card will be given when all numbers are sold OR at the end of the adoption- whichever comes first.

If you would like to sponsor a piece or buy a number please donate the amount to our FSP and send a copy of the receipt to my email : ashtonymcbride@yahoo.com This way I know who has donated.

We need $12500 to be fully funded. This puzzle will give us $4915 and the visa gift card board will give us $4995 for a total of $9,910. We would be so close to fully funded with just these two fundraisers!

We also still have the blankets, and ornaments and paintings we can do.

A friend of mine is in Owens Country picking up her little girl, and has decided to help us with our fundraising efforts ! She has an amazon link that she is allowing us to use. This link will give us a portion of the sales to help bring Owen home. This is the link :Amazon Link

You can also see it on the sidebar, near our FSP link. It is completely free to use ! So while you are doing some last minute Christmas shopping, please consider using this link to help us at the same time :)

Soon Little Man, Mommy will be back soon

I am so excited to be sharing our final day with you ! It has been exactly one month since we last visited Owen. I can not believe it has gone by so fast ! If it keeps up at this rate we should be back there in no time at all ;)

Best french toast, ever !
This morning was our final day in country. The next morning we would leave our apartment really early in the morning. So we got up and got ready. We had brunch with our attorney and our translator. Before we left our agency gave us a "travel guide" and in this travel guide strongly suggested that we try the french toast. I had been looking forward to it all week ! But as we were sitting there I noticed they had waffles on the menu. I seriously love me some IHOP waffles and made a quick decision to get that instead. My husband, attorney and translator all got the french toast. Have you ever had a moment where you are the odd man out and instantly regret your choice? That was me. And being the awesome wife I am made my husband share with me. Im just going to say this right now... we will be going back there on trip two. And I will be ordering myself the french toast...or maybe two ya know to make up for lost time ;) Our attorney let us know that in his opinion he feels like it would be around March that we would be invited back for our pick up trip.

We left our brunch and went over to the Ministry of Justice. This was so that we could officially register with Owen. This means that no one else can look at his file or adopt him before we come back- internationally or domestically. This does not however include his biological parents. They can come back at any time up until the court decree is in our hands and take him home. This is extremely unlikely given that he is almost 5 and has lived his entire life in the orphanage, but it is possible. This is why our agency requests that adoptive parents, even ones with their child on hold, not post the child's photo on any social media. It really is to protect the child and the parents. So while I know that everyone would like to see his face, we are respecting everyone involved and not posting him. He is super cute though ! ;)

The Big one is with Owen <3

Our translator dropped us off at the orphanage and we were able to spend about an hour alone with him. It was during a shift change at the orphanage so we said goodbye to the day caregivers and told them we would be back next year. We sat and talked with Owen and gave him his bear. His face lit up like a Christmas tree when we handed it to him ! He spent a good 10 minutes just hugging it. We let him know he could hold it anytime he missed us and that it would remind him that we would be coming back. He didn't understand why he wasn't leaving with us but all we could say was that it wasn't time yet. They celebrate Christmas in January over there so we told him that after Christmas we would be coming back. It was the best way we knew how to describe the wait time.

He was so snugly ! He kept wanting to hug and kiss us and be near us. We also brought some chocolate and cookies for him and his friends to enjoy. And boy did they ever. Next time we will bring a little more ! ha ha !

I'm starting to realize that once we go home, my heart will literally be on two separate ends of the earth. We are 6,612 apart. It is going to be so hard to do life, and not have him home with us. Even though we have been in the process for over a year, and we have loved him from the beginning that love gets so much deeper after we've just spent a week with him every single day.

While I have had a lot of emotions over this week. Fear. Sadness. Happiness. Joy. Excitement. I cant help but feel an overwhelming amount of fear right now. I am scared. We have just 4 months to come up with the remaining amount of money. Because at the end of the day even if they were to tell us two weeks from now that we could come back and take him home, we dont have the money yet. Adoption is a lot of things, and one of those things is expensive. We have just a few fees left, but they are pretty big fees. I am worried that we will not come up with the money in time. I do not want him to wait a minute longer than he needs to. It would not be fair. We have applied for a few grants, we have some fundraisers lined up, and Tony is planning to work as much over time as he can. I also have just started a part time job helping a friend during the week. I plan to look into a few more opportunities to earn the money and I just hope that all of these little things will add up and we will not have any financial delays. I am trying to keep faith that everything will work out when it needs to. But I am a worrier by nature, its just the way I am.

I am so excited to go home to my babies ! I have missed them so much over this week !

My Sweet Ethan ! He was so excited to have us back home !

Little miss Ashlyn couldn't wait for daddy to hold her ! ;)

Remaining Adoption Fees:
Final international fee: ($2,000) Hosting-will include apartment, translator and transportation: ($4600) Post placement fees: ($1400) Visa for Owen to come home: ($325)--almost covered-- Estimated expenses for airfare and in country expenses:  about $4500

almost the last day

We are almost at the end of our week here. I am amazed at how quickly it flew by ! We went to the orphanage this morning around 10 and he was in the playroom with all of his little friends. He waved at us when he saw us walk in. I went to pick him up and we went to the living area where the couches are. We were sitting with him and talking about life at home and what our house is like when one of the caregivers walked in. She had been gone all week so this was the first time we were meeting her. She sat down and started talking with us about Owen and telling us about his medical history. She showed us his entire medical book and went over the care he is receiving there. I am so impressed with his mobility, given the lack of therapy he has. We were under the impression that he was getting therapy about 3 times a week. But what actually happens, is a therapist comes 3  times a week but with over 20 kids Owen is lucky to receive therapy once a month !

We also learned that his birth name was given to him by his birth mother. In his orphanage they tend to change the names of the children when they come in. So many of his friends have different names than their parents gave them. Sometimes children come with no name at all, but if they do come with a name and the orphanage doesnt like it they will change it. I loved his name before, and we plan to keep it, but now that I know his mother chose it for him I am even more in love with it.

Aftr meeting with the caregiver we went to play in the play room until it was lunch time. Then we left and went to the apartment until it was time to go back.

As we walked in the children were getting weighed and measured. Little Dude weighs about 28lbs and is almost 3ft tall ! He is just a few weeks younger than Ethan. Ethan is 45lb and almost 4ft tall. After that was over we decided to call Ethan and Ashlyn and see how they were doing. He really loves talking to them on the phone and says he wants to meet them. He keeps asking when they will come.
The rest of the visit we didnt really do much other than play and have fun with him.

So more to come....:)

Life begins where your comfort zone ends.

A few years ago I felt like God was placing adoption on my heart, but I wasn't sure why. I was young. I had kids, I could have more if I wanted. But that feeling never went away, so we started discussing the possibility of adoption. I will be the first to admit Im not a super awesome Christian. I have made mistakes. I have sinned. I have done things I am not proud of. I haven't always walked in my faith.  But my relationship with Him has grown in the last several years.

When we first decided that we would grow our family through adoption we didn't exactly know where to start. I had a friend who had adopted from the U.S foster care system, and honestly that process appealed to me. If I am being honest the fact that it is nearly free to adopt a child from the system was the most appealing part. When we first mentioned that we were interested in adding to our family, by adopting a child, most people were not supportive. They didn't understand why we wouldn't just conceive another child. But we knew that there were children out there that didn't have a family and instead of trying to conceive another child we could adopt one of those children and give them a family.

And we felt strongly that this was what was placed on our hearts. So I called every foster care agency in our area, including the Department of Social Services. Half of them never returned my call. Two of them refused to work with us because our children were so young. And the Department of Social services said they would love to work with us, but couldn't fit us into their next class. Tony works evenings, and has for several years. Working evenings at his job, gives him a pay increase which is nice. It allows us to live more comfortably, and it works for our family. At this time though, he was training for a new position, so he was working days and off in the early evenings. This was the only time we could take the class, together. I tried to explain this to the social worker, but she refused.

I spent the next several months contemplating our family. I felt like we were missing something, someone. I thought God had placed a desire to adopt, but maybe I was wrong. During those months I was faced with several people who were adopting internationally. And while I had not ever truly considered adopting internationally I was interested in it. As a young child I would look up children and ask my mom to adopt them.... but that's about where my interest started and ended.

A few weeks had gone by and I had this nagging feeling to call a few agencies. I had no idea who to call or where to begin. We had no idea which agency we would use, if any. We had no idea which country we would go with, if any. Or which special needs we would be open to, if any.  I literally just googled International Adoption Agencies and started calling them one by one. A few of them completely turned us away because of our ages, family size etc. A few of them were really awesome to talk to and said that we were limited to only a few countries because of our ages, family size etc. Almost all of them said we were a good fit for the Bulgaria program and that it was a great program to work with. So this is it, we just needed to figure out which agency we liked best.

We chose our agency and filled out the application. We were with them for a few months when I stumbled upon a website ReecesRainbow.org. My life changed. My heart changed. Everything changed. So Tony and I started talking about special needs parenting and what we were and were not comfortable with. While I wont share everything, Spina Bifida actually happened to be on the No list. But we continued looking at the children listed. I would email our agency to request the file of a few children, but none of them felt right.

But, God. He knows our story, and he knows where we should be. Then Boone happened. Boone is a little boy in Bulgaria who has Spina Bifida. He was adorable. My agency had his file and it that file were some videos. I watched this little boy every single day, for weeks. We weren't ready to commit yet, but I couldn't stop watching his videos. Eventually that little boy found a family.  I was overjoyed that he had a family coming for him. I knew that if he were the little boy meant for our family that it would have happened, so I wasn't super upset.  God used this little boy to soften our hearts to Spina Bifida. Because of this little boy I knew we would add a little boy with Spina Bifida to our family.

A few weeks later, I saw Blake. When I saw his profile, my heart stopped. This was our son. This was the little boy we were supposed to add to our family. Having no idea what the codes on the profile meant I quickly emailed our agency for his file only to find out that he was not in Bulgaria. Heartbreak. It seemed kind of like a cruel joke that I could feel so strongly in my heart that this was the little boy for our family but he wasnt in the country we were adopting from, thus not with our agency. Well If I cant be this little boys mommy, somebody has to be. And in that moment I decided to pray for this little boy. That his mommy would see him, and know in her heart that he was hers. We prayed for "Blake", but continued with our agency.

A few months went by and someone posted his photo in a Facebook group that advocates for children.  Her message was simple "Someone see him." Again, my heart stopped. There was my son, and someone else was praying for his family too ! After a little motivation I decided to call the agency with his file. Now I will be the first to tell you that change scares me. I was so out of my comfort zone with an international adoption already, switching agencies was terrifying. But as they say : Life begins where your comfort zone ends. I was mostly calling because I assumed they would tell me no, and I could shake that little nudging feeling off.

But they didn't. We qualified for their agency, and his country program. Relief. And Terror. Knowing this meant we would have to switch agencies. We would lose the money we had already spent. We would lose what little bit of comfort we were feeling, with our agency and our program. So we prayed, hard. While we were praying, and contemplating the switch I was connected with a woman who was in "Blake's" country finalizing her adoption. She shared with me that she had met him and that he was asking her where his mama and papa were, if they were coming for him. She said that he seemed to have lost hope that he would get a family. Imagine, at 3 years old feeling like you weren't worthy of a family. That no one was coming for you. My heart shattered. I wanted him, I loved him in ways I never knew possible just from a picture. She said that his caregivers had told him that she would go back to America to find his mom and dad, and in that moment he put his hands together to pray for that to happen. This happened the same day we asked the agency to see his file. After months of praying for this little boy we were making a phone call that would change his life, and ours.  I knew in my heart that this little boy was ours. And I knew I needed to trust God right now, to follow him where he was taking us.  So we switched agencies. And on Nov 20,2014 we officially committed to him and began the process of making him our son.

International Adoption is expensive. That fact alone was enough to make me not want to start the process at all. How would we come up with enough money to pay for an adoption. We are a single income family and we do not have that kind of money just chillin' in the bank. But I continue trusting God to provide a way. Whether that is people donating to our FSP, or Tony working over time, or my side jobs and hobbies adding up to pay a fee, or our fundraisers being successful. Maybe there is a fundraiser we haven't even thought of yet that will carry us to the end. Either way, God will provide a way because this is exactly where he wants us to be. I feel like he will bless us with the patience to continue on the hard days. He will bless us with the funds when we needs them. Everything happens in his perfect timing.

And just because.... here is a photo of us on our last day in country. I feel like I look 10 years older in that photo, jet lag and a different time zone were not kind ;)

Make sure to come back, Ill be posting our final visit with Little Man soon ! <3

Hello, How are you?

View from our apartment, of Mt Ararat!

Gorgeous Sunset!
We arrived at the orphanage around 10am, before our translator. She said she would be there shortly. So we walked up, by this point we are feeling fairly comfortable around all of his caregivers so it wasn't super awkward or anything. It was Music day, and Owen really wanted to attend. He asked if we could go too, and of course we said yes !It was so fun watching him interact with all of his friends and play with the instruments. He really enjoys singing and shaking the little shaker things. They were singing Christmas and kids songs.

I feel like this visit went by so fast because before we knew it , it was lunch time. So we left and walked around the city some more.

We headed back to his orphaange around . He was in the playroom with his friends when we got there. He was excited to go for a walk today, but we decided not to. We felt it would help if we stayed in the orphanage and played together. We wanted to call Ethan and Ashlyn before they left their grandmas house for the day. So the translator stepped out of the room while we made the call.

He really enjoyed talking to his brother and sister ! He even got to talk to his grandma Jersey (Its what we call my mother in law because she lives in NJ ;) ) When she said Hello, he yelled "Hello, How are you?" In perfect English. Needless to say Grandma Jersey was not expecting that at all. Ethan and ashlyn got on the phone and were talking to Owen. Ethan asked if we were going to bring brother home, and I had to explain that it wasn't going to happen this trip, but the next one. It so hard trying to explain to 4 year olds that our family is separated right now. They dont understand, and cant grasp that there is paper work to be done and fees to be raised. All they know is that family is supposed to be together. And it hurts my heart.

We noticed that without the translator present Owen seemed to be making more effort to interact with us and communicate with us. So after our phone call was over we asked if she would mind stepping out again. She completely understood, and didn't mind one bit. While we were alone in the room we were playing with the ball just rolling it back and forth between the three of us. We were blowing bubbles which he really loved ! At one point the ball rolled behind him so I reached to grab it. He reached up and grabbed my arm. He pulled it towards his face and in that moment I thought "oh man. He is totally about to bite my arm." .... But he didn't. He kissed my hand instead ! Again, that boy melted my heart. He had absolutely no reason to trust us when we first got there. We started the week as complete strangers and by the end we were trusted friends. He wanted to be near us. He wanted to sit with us. He wanted to interact with us. Which were all things that we had hoped would happen but didn't expect to happen.

While none of that means it will be an easy transition once we come home, it gives us hope that maybe it will be a little easier than we expected. Even though I want to be clear that we do not expect and smooth, uneventful transition home. Children who come from hard places have a lot of trust to build. And while his orphanage is "good" its an orphanage, not a family. Every adoption starts with a profound loss, one that we can not even imagine. So it will take time for him to adjust to his new life, his new family and his new home.

The best bread,ever!
After we were done playing with the ball we went into the dining room. Him and Tony were playing together, and by that I mean Owen thought it was funny to roll really fast on his zipzac by Tony to see if Tony could "catch" him. It was seriously the cutest darn thing ever. He would let out this sweet little giggle every time Tony caught him and if Tony didnt, he would zoom back by !

We left at supper time and went to eat at a Georgian Restaurant in the city. It was so yummy !!!! I seriously love food, like a lot. So I am not hard to please but it was delicious ! We will definitely be eating there again when we go back !

I have no idea what I ate, but it was awesome ! :)
To Make things easier for those of you reading our blog I am going to keep our adoption fees on each post. That way you will know where we are in the process and wont have to search old posts to figure out what we have left and where we stand. Please feel free to share any of our blog posts with your friends or family. The more people that know about our process and know about our sweet little guy means more people praying for us. I am a big believer in prayer, praying works !
